The Late Republic was a period of continued refinement and expansion of the water infrastructure system of Rome. Two additional aqueducts, the Aqua Marcia of 144 BC, and the Aqua Tepula of 125 BC were completed. The Aqua Marcia delivered water to the Capitoline hill for the first time. Rome continued to expand its infrastructure associated with the Tiber River. Port facilities were greatly enlarged and the second bridge across the Tiber, the Pons Aemilius, was constructed. The Tiber Island was also linked to the left bank of the city by a permanent bridge, the Pons Fabricius, which still functions to this day.
